Happy Monday loves!💖 Here is a quick lesson on some the chemistry that goes into soap making🧪 Sodium hydroxide, or more commonly known as lye, is a chemical compound that maintains the pH of skincare products. It’s important to understand the role that sodium hydroxide plays in keeping skin healthy and why it’s a key ingredient in soap. You must use it to make cold process soap, like the ones I make!😋 In soap making sodium hydroxide is combined with water, and then a chemical change happens, it begins to heat up and can reach temperatures up to 200 degrees. 🥵 so it is caustic and can be extremely dangerous to work with. Always make sure you’re being careful when working with any sort of chemicals😱 Love, Wren👩🏻🔬
