๐ฏ In the Light ๐ฏ
Darkness cannot drive out darkness;
only light can do that.

A smile is the light in your window
that tells others that there is a caring,

Hallo everyone.
I am sorry that I didn't post yesterday but it was a bit of a emotional day for me. I posted a "Memory Lane" story about how we lost our 3rd ch1ld. I never planned the story and as I started writing it things just started to pour out. If you want to hear the story, let me know and I will post it here.
In any case it is Friday...
Start the weekend early! Take the afternoon off and go take a walk in a park.
- Listen to the birds singing.
- Smell the fragrance of nature.
- See the beauty in every tree, branch and leaf.
- Feed a squirrel. Unless they have rabies, then RUN! ๐ Ok, on second thoughtโฆ Feed a duck.
Have a great day everyone! ๐
๐ Railway Station Ruin ๐
Donโt ruin your own happiness by letting someoneโs wickedness hurt you.
- Gift Gugu Mona
This was taken at the Fouriesburg railway station that is about 10 kilometers out of town. It has been abandon for many years. I really love these โbig brickโ buildings! They always make me think of those โVictorianโ type buildings.
The railway line from Ficksburg to Fouriesburg on to Bethlehem was completed in 1907. The last passenger train departed this station in about 1990. Founded in 1892, the town was named after Christoffel Fourie who was a local a farmer.
In sunny Africa, it is very difficult to take photos in the middle of the day. It always leads to what my husband call "harsh shadows". So on this day I was standing in the shadow of the tree and the yellow fields behind be completely overexposed. When I saw these photos it looked like the fields behind me were on fire. I actually liked the look!
Have a great day everyone. It's a cold and cloudy day here by us!
๐ฅ Fields of Fire๐ฅ
Set a fire down in my soul
That I can't contain
That I can't control
๐ฒSitting in the Forestโฆ
I feel the touch of the forest
I feel the spirit of the forest
I feel the solace of the forest
I feel the reverence of the forest
In the forest I lose my mind
In the forest I find my soul
Have a great week everyone!

๐ Long Road ๐
A long straight gravel road on the way to Bracefield. Some of the roads are so straight and long you can see right into tomorrow! ๐
๐ Long Road ๐
Late in the afternoon on our way home from the Waterberg mountains. The clouds just had this awesome texture and my husband decided to stop just there in the road and take some photos.
๐ Long Road ๐
Under a blue sky on a road to nowhere. We just love driving these lonely gravel roads. A game we play is that when we go to a junction, we randomly decide left or right! It has led to some very interesting destinations!
๐ Long Road ๐
Late in the afternoon on a road in the Golden Gate Highlands National Park near Clarens. The majority of vegetation is comprised of either highveld or montane grasslands. The are a lot of colouful sandstone formations, which shine golden-yellow in the evening sun.
Memory Lane 3
It sometimes felt weird to dress up and do make-up at 8pm for a photoshoot. Especially when you know your not going out of a nice meal! Damn! We used the bedroom and the living room the most. We didnโt care about what was in the background, so often there was cables, empty cups or make-up in the photos! ๐
As the hobby progressed, we started taking photos in the garden. It was a dismal failure. My husband didnโt know about โharsh shadowsโ, position of the sun or anything like that. It was just โsit there and smileโ! No planning, no consideration for the time of day, no attention to the background. Just take the camera and take photos! ๐ ๐
And so the first year of our hobby rushed past. We only used the house for photos. We stacked the couch cushions to make backdrops, we hung a bedspread against the wall and generally had a lot of fun. On some photoshoots I had up to 5 wardrobe changes! We soon realised that a 2MP camera is not good enough. So we bought a mega expensive 3.1MP FUJIFILM FinePix S602 ZOOM! It had 6x zoom! What a flagship of a camera! ๐ธ๐ท
We had a lot of fun in 2002, our first year of the hobby and an effort to rebuild our marriage. We learned a lot, we laughed a lot, I sat for minutes bored out of my skull while the photographer fiddled with camera settings! But things started to look up for us and our relationship ๐. We were on the right path. Things were looking good! But then something happened... It will be 1 year and 8 months before we do another photoshoot!๐ฎ
This place is called the "Lekker Berg", in English the "Nice Mountain". We used to camp here all the time. It was our second home! But we haven't been here for a while. Our of curiosity I went onto their website this morning. For one night it is R550 ($34) per night! ๐ฒ๐ฒ๐ฒ On our last camp we paid R200 ($12)! Oh well, time to look for another "home from home". ๐๐๐๐
Thought for the day:
๐ฅ Challenging Thoughts ๐ฅ
Remember that stress doesn't come from what's going on in your life,
it comes from your THOUGHTS about what's going on.
And we don't grow when things are easy,
we grow when we face CHALLENGES.
Dedicated to friends of us that are going through a divorce at the moment. Divorce rates 2nd on the list of most stressful things that can happen in life. When I see the pain and suffering they are going through, I'm so thankful that we've saved our marriage all those years ago. My heart bleeds for everyone going through a divorce right now, you are in my thoughts. โคโคโค
๐ Be... ๐
Be strong - but not rude
Be kind - but not weak
Be bold - but don't bully
Be humble - but not shy
Be proud - but not arrogant
- Jim Roth
Taking this photos, my husband completely got the "white balance" wrong. Try as I might I couldn't get the balance right. So I decided to play with Sepia, and although this is not completely Sepia, I do like the look. I think it came out great!
Have a great day everyone.
Late one afternoon on our way back to camp for the night, we took these in the late afternoon sun. The shadows were long, I was tired and the beer was waiting!
Can anyone spot my husband in photo #4?
๐ Precious Gifts ๐
I never cared about the material things someone could give me.
I cared about time, attention, honesty, loyalty and effort.
Those gifts mean more than anything money could buy. ๐
Power of Positivity
I hope you had an awesome day! ๐๐
1 ๐ Monday Blue Skies ๐
We are lucky in our country in that polution is not that prevalent like it is in other countries. You do get some smoggy days in the cities, but in the rural areas, the skies are still as blue as the ocean. The blue skies are an amazing backdrop to pose against.
This photo has been taken in a nature reserve right next to the city we stay in. This is proof that even in our cities, you do get days of pristine blue skies. This normally happens after a good rain storm, washing the skies clear of all the pollutants.
2 ๐ Monday Blue Skies ๐
Another winter blue sky photo taken near the town of Badplaas. My eyes are very sensitive to bright light, so me looking directly into the sun make my eyes water. I therefore had to wear dark glasses to protect my eyes, like all of us should actually do.
3 ๐ Monday Blue Skies ๐
Sitting prettily, (I love that word), on a rock in a nature reserve to the north of us. We used to frequent this nature reserve frequently, until they closed one of the parts we loved. It's only recently that we've returned to this nature reserve. And why? Because they relented and opened the top part of the nature reserve again.
4 ๐ Monday Blue Skies ๐
Now this is a prickly situation. Sitting next to a prickly pear tree, trying not to touch the plant. As you might know, the prickly pear plant has some nasty, very fine thorns. As as a kid, loving prickly pear fruit, I often got these fine thorns stuck in my hands. It took a magnifying glass and tweezers to remove these thorns. ๐ ๐๐๐
5 ๐ Monday Blue Skies ๐
In the country side, in winter time, the sky is at it's bluest. This photo was one of the first where we tried to use the sky as a backdrop. And I think it worked quite well.
6 ๐ Monday Blue Skies ๐
Sitting on the logs against the blue sky in Sabie, a little town very far from cities. Here the sky is always a deep and royal blue. The town is surrounded by forests, and I think the forests contribute to the clean sky.
7 ๐ Monday Blue Skies ๐
My super hero pose in the grass against the blue sky. This photo was taken just outside the town of Rhodes on our way to the town on Cedarville. While I was going through a particular difficult time in my life, this pose really helped to calm me down!
8 ๐ Monday Blue Skies ๐
Our secret hiding spot in the Mabalingwe Nature Reserve. This spot looks out over the plains to the south. Yes, the sky is not always perfectly blue. Looking south from this spot, you look toward the city of Pretoria, where pollution can definitely be seen.
9 ๐ Monday Blue Skies ๐
This is a small ruin in the Oudshoorn area, far, far away from where we live. Because there are no industrial areas nearby, the sky is always blue here.
10 ๐ Monday Blue Skies ๐
A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away. This photo was taken in the "Only Take My Boobies Out of the Blouse" phase. This was also with my small boobies before the implants.
Road closed
We were driving Forest road one day and found this tree blocking the road. A storm the previous night caused the damage. We took some photos here and turned around, driving to a little waterfall.
Thinking that we are save because of the block road, we just enjoyed ourselves taking photos at the waterfall. And then...
...two Jeeps arrived full of y0ung people. We nearly got caught! They used the winches on the Jeeps to clear the road!!!!
ps. Dammit!!!! I thought I posted this yesterday, but because OF is so sensitive for works it didn't post it. The word in question: y0ung!!!!!
Window into Ruin
This is a ruin just outside the town of Dullstroom. We drove past it one morning and noticed that a fire has destroyed the fence next to the road. We stopped and spend a few hours there taking photos.
The next time we got there a new fence was up!!! But the one chance we had gave us some very pretty photos.
๐ง Magic in Water ๐ง
โIf there is magic on this planet,
it is contained in water.โ
โ Loren Eiseley
It is such a great day๐, go somewhere pretty and sit with you feet in the water.
Even if it is only in the bath. ๐๐๐
"Chicken of beef? Chicken or beef?" I know I look like a stewardess here with my red neck tie, but I really liked the look ๐. This is at Forest Falls in Sabie. One of our favorite places to visit. It is so beautiful there. I love it there!
I have often wondered why water, rivers, lakes, the sea even, a big dam or lake has such a relaxing and tranquil effect on me? It is just the epitome of relaxation. What do you think?
Have a great Saturday everyone!
